Vocational Nursing Program

The Vocational Nursing Program is an intense 1530 hour program which is divided into 574 theory hours, and 956 clinical hours. A total of 136 hours will be granted for the completion of the pre-requisite courses and therefore included in the 574 total theory hours. The program is designed to prepare students for employment as staff nurses, giving care to patients in a variety of settings, such as acute hospitals, extended care facilities, home health care, surgical centers & medical offices. Students who complete the curriculum and achieve the certificate of completion are qualified to take the examination leading to licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.

Admission Procedure
Prior to being considered for admission to the program the following pre-requisites must be met. As per BVNPT rules there is a (5) year time out applied to all prerequisites. The required prerequisites must be completed before you will be considered for admission (may not be taken concurrently).

   REQUIRED 
  Anatomy & Physiology (36 hrs)
  Nutrition (36 hrs)
  Pharmacology for Nurses (54 hrs)

You must have prior approval from the program director before attending any course that offers 54 hours of BRN credit. If you do not have prior approval your course will not be accepted for credit in the SCON program. For more information please send an email to info@scnursing.org.

C.N.A. graduates from Solano College of Nursing will be given admission preference.
  C-NET Test
   

Write the Nursing Entrance Examination (C-NET) with a passing grade of 75% or higher.

Study guides must be obtained directly from C-NET for a fee of $45.00 and are delivered within a two week period after receiving your order. The address for submission of your order is printed on the order form. Order forms are available in the Student Services Office.

The C-NET test will be administered at a Solano College of Nursing location. The testing dates will be announced on this web site and all students will have to register with the Student Services Office prior to taking the exam.

The cost of the exam is $50.00. Each student must bring two money orders made payable to:
(1) C-NET for $25.00    (2)Solano College of Nursing $25.00

  Human Growth & Development (36 hrs)
  Math Foundations (18 hrs)


Process for Consideration
Prior to requesting an appointment with the Program Director potential students must have the following documentation on file with the Student Services Office:
1. One Official (sealed envelope) copy of high school diploma/transcripts or GED certificate.
 
If you attended High School outside the U.S. then you must have your High School transcripts officially evaluated and certified before we can accept them for admission.
2. Official (sealed envelope) transcripts for college work completed to date.
3. Two (2) Letters of Recommendation - must be from an employer, instructor, or other relevant person. Letters from relatives are not acceptable.
4. Current CPR Certification.
5. Copy of CNA Certification.
6. Must have a recent physical exam including negative tuberculin testing (PPD), Immunization record (including Hepatitis Vaccine). Students with positive PPD should submit a copy of a chest x-ray result to the school indicating that the student does not have active tuberculosis.
7. In addition to being a CNA, all applicants must have a minimum of 6 months of experience upon completion of their CNA program.
